Honouring Our Retired Volunteers

It all started when…

A group of fore and far-sighted pioneers collectively decided that a self-help grouping is necessary as more Tamil Muslims decided to relocate to Singapore. The objective was to help them settle down, get a job and start a family. Unlike other communities, interestingly mostly members from the Tenkasi and Kadayanallur migrated with their families where-else mostly only the male relocated from other communities. In that respect the first known grouping was the Muslim Improvement Club registered in 1926. Most of the inaugural management committee members were also from the Kadayanallur and Tenkasi community.

For some reasons they were not able to sustain the coalition and it was eventually disbanded which lead to the re-grouping as Singapore Tenkasi Welfare Society (1940) and SKML in 1941.

Since then many other Tamil Muslim organisations have since been registered and today (as of Nov 2021) there are some close to 30 odd socio-religious organisations.

BUT…….non of these organisations can function let alone survive without the hard and heart-work of volunteers. The volunteers represent the bloodline and pulse of the organisations. This page is an attempt by us to remember and honour as many volunteers who have helped us all these years.
